Toilet Tissue History
How Tissue Paper Changed Everything
It’s hard to imagine a world without tissue paper, but believe it or not, it wasn’t always around. In fact, the first splinter free tissue paper was created in 1857 by a man named Joseph Gayetty. He marketed his new invention as “The Most Perfect Paper for the Hygienic and Sanitary Requirements of Mankind.” Gayetty’s tissue paper was made from pure cotton and was meant to be used as toilet paper.
